Dr. Ramirez Barbieri is a Research fellow at the Center for Resuscitation Science. She is a graduate of San Marcos University, Lima, Peru. She started a one-year program at the Harvard School of Public Health on Principles and Practice of Clinical Research. She completed her Research Fellowship at the Boston Children’s Hospital Division of Cardiovascular under the sponsorship of Harvard Medical School. She was involved in multiple projects focusing on mitochondrial transplantation as a method of cardio and pulmonary protection. She was entrusted with leading a project to demonstrate the efficacy of mitochondrial transplantation as a potential treatment for cardiac ischemia/reperfusion injury in the large animal model. She is an active member of the Illinois Peruvian American Medical Society helping them bring medical aid to poor communities in Chicago and Peru.
Giovanna’s current focus is on research related to post-cardiac arrest care to pursue her main interest in cardiovascular ischemia diseases.
